New Pet Checks
Congratulations on your new pet!!
What a thrilling (and busy!!) time for you and your family.
The staff at the Ivanhoe Veterinary Clinic love to meet new patients!!
Whether you have purchased a tiny puppy or kitten, or if you have adopted an older dog or cat, it is recommended that you make an appointment to have your new pet’s health checked with one our skilled veterinarians.
What to expect?
During your New Pet Check, the veterinarian will give your pet a thorough examination.
This will include listening to their heart and lungs, feeling their abdomen, checking their eyes and ears, examining their mouth and assessing their skin, coat and musculoskeletal system.
Early identification of any issues is very important so that action may be taken in a timely manner. In some cases, a follow up consultation may be needed to help investigate these issues further and spend more time discussing the management or treatment of any issues identified.
We ask that you bring any relevant paperwork (i.e., vaccination certificates) or previous veterinary history to this appointment so that your vet can gain a greater understanding of your pet’s medical history. It would also be useful if you could bring a record of the preventatives (i.e. worm, flea, heartworm coverage) that your pet has had in the past. This will help your veterinarian assess what your pet is or is not protected against and will help them devise the best plan for your pet.
We can also discuss your pet’s diet and may touch on topics of desexing, toilet training or behaviour.
Should a more in-depth discussion on any of these topics be needed, we may recommend a follow-up appointment to discuss your questions/concerns in more detail.
